Something came on TV about Australian doctors wanting smacking kids to be banned. Who thinks smacking kids should be banned around the world? I think it should be banned because it is crool.

When I have kids, spanking/smacking them will be my last resort.

There's far worse forms of punishment than smacking, I had to stand in the corner of the room with my arms in the air!

I've no problem with smacking kids in proportion, never did me any harm. What annoys me is parents that cause a scene in public, taking their kids shopping for instance, they usually make the situation worse and wind the kids up!

Kneeling on rice for was the worst for me.

We should just Ban absolute reprobates from reproducing!

  • It WAS fun

There's not a damn thing wrong with using smacking as punishment. When I was growing up and I did something wrong, I knew what was coming my way. And it sure as hell made me think twice about doing it again.

Giving a child under five a good ol whack over the chops is wrong in my opinion, if they are older and can understand what they are doing wrong then maybe.

Guys... Getting rid of smacking wouldn't be the end of the world! Use your creativity! There is still Chinese water torture, being forced to hold a stack of cards to the wall with their nose, and in some cases (Myfistyurface ) licking peanut butter off you're daddy's .... Nevermind it seems there is a greater evil on our hands!

Kids need to learn consequences, and pecking order. They will face I throughout their entire lives. There obviously is a limit and there are extremes, but if you have kids you know the effectiveness of behavior modification from a well timed spank on the back-side or grab of the arm/shoulder.

I'm all for spanking I got my rear end painted red as a child. It taught me to respect my parents and scared me enough to not do stupid things. I came out a proper adult because of a few open hands slaps on the cheeks

Im for spanking. I was spanked all the time as a child. My brother wasnt. I would like to think im a pretty good kid, i might do somethig wrong every once in a while but i would like to think im prett disciplined.

My brother on the ither hand, was almost never spanked, and i woul usually take the spankings for hil because i would get all the blame. He is now a spoile brat who yells at hos parents and cries everytime he doesnt get what he wants. And he's 11. Nowadays i've taken to smacking him even though my parents yell at me for it. Sure i feel like a dick for doing it and he gets pissed, but it gets the job done and the message across.

I wish I only got smacked as a child. I have scars across my back from where the prongs of an extension cord dug in. My grandmother was ruthless. My daughter has only been spanked 5 times in her life, but it's the most severe punishment for the most severe offense. Most recent was theft from the corner store, 3 years ago.

    Perfectly said.

As kids, my siblings and I were subject to beatings, with fists, belts and other inanimate objects, either hit with or thrown at us. If we were smacked (in the traditional sense) 'a clip across the ear' or 'smacked backside', we were grateful. The problem is, the line between a disciplinary 'smack' and simple assault, is so blurred that its impossible to judge.

While I would say that my own experiences probably haven't had a huge impact on my life, I've never, in all her 16 years, raised a hand to my daughter. Not because I feel it's morally wrong as such, I've just never felt compelled to do it.

As for banning it, I wouldn't have an issue with it. I would like to think that few or no parents would feel so strongly about wanting the right to physically hit their child, that they'd fight against a ban. If it were banned then you simply adapt your parenting to fit within the law.

The occasional spanking is not going to hurt a child. Today parents are more interested in being their child's friend rather than the parent. Kids today have no respect for their elders and most expect to have everything for nothing. I think in certain situations parents need to be like our parents/grandparents were... And that includes spanking.

Weatherboarding is an option. Nothing wrong with "five across the eyes"

  • ★CHΛOS★

    Oops waterboarding damn auto correct

I've only been smacked a few times as a child.
Even now I still think my mom will smack me if we are arguing even though she hasn't done it in years.
No smacking at a early age, its always been haunting me.

    Smacking face is wrong aswell.

This..... You have to be their parent first before you can even think of being their friend. It's our responsibility as parents to make sure our children are prepared for life. Banning spanking?? HA, what a load of crap.....

Smacking kids Isn't nothing Any you guys remember your mom telling you to break a branch off for her? It sucked you had to go break your own branch for her to Hit you with you with it.

Preparation for life is impossible without spanking?

Disagree with that bit. It's easy to discern that line. Simply don't beat the shit out of your kid. It's not hard. Some people just don't care. Or are wired to think there's nothing wrong with it. I could never hit my daughter that way. However I agree with Darken. I got the belt when I fucked up real bad. I knew not to do it again. There's a difference between abuse and discipline. Despite what politicians and the politically correct wing says.

don't beat the shit out of your kid...
The line is easy to clarify by your own standard, but there's no scale to go off. Where do you draw the line? Simply saying, "we'll you just don't beat the shit out of them" isn't valid. Is a light punch ok, so long as it's no harder than a general slap? Is it ok to slap hard enough to leave a sting? Is it ok to to crack the kid across the head? (For those who may be missing the meaning, I'm not looking for answers to these questions!)

There are many ways to use "disciplinary" bodily harm but there's simply is no way to know if there's a line crossed. As kids we are told that physical violence isn't the answer to solving problems. Even if I gently slap some guy up side the head, I can be criminally charged with assault... Just food for thought!

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I just can't see much substance to the pro argument. I like to look at both sides of life's problems equally. 😉👍

I don't believe in beating my kids. So I make them wear a Justin Bieber shirt and Crocs to school so other kids will do it for me.
