  I like shotguns, particularly pumps. In case of home invasion the sound of a pump and an angry voice would make most flee. If not, it’s hard to miss if you pull the trigger, and depending on the shell, there’s plenty of stopping power. I also keep a 38/357 revolver close. If you’re talking real home defense, get some body armor too.
